My name is Jill Purdy. I enjoy working with individuals who are passionate about the activities they love to do whether that is knitting, running marathons or in particular fencing. I will not only help you recover from your injury but to help you regain that confidence to help you return to your sport safely and effectively. Something about me is I am a bit of a anatomy nerd so I love to help people truly understand their injury.
What is an Athletic Therapist?
As an athletic therapist, I am the person who will enter onto the field when an athlete is hurt and I am qualified to help them. In addition to helping them safely off the field, I will work with the athlete to bring the athlete back to full playing potential using manual therapies and functional exercises. As we are specialists in the musculoskeletal system, we integrate the whole body to ensure the best possible outcome for recovery. Another goal of mine is to integrate prevention programs into teams to reduce the amount of injuries. I am a Certified Athletic Therapist and a First Responder. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Why did I become a Athletic Therapist?
I started my journey towards athletic therapy in High School in a sports medicine class where I was given the opportunity to work with a volleyball team as a "student trainer". That is where I learned that I loved to help people. My love of sport, and my love of medicine helped lead me to taking a degree in Kinesiology from Brock University. While at Brock University, I was able to be mentored by the well respected Joe Kenny, Karen Miller and Jim Bilotta, as I was working as a student Athletic Therapist for the Brock University Varsity Fencing Team. Having learned about physiology, anatomy, and sport psychology, I decided to follow my passion to help people and continue on to Study Athletic Therapy at Mount Royal University. At Mount Royal University, I was able to learn the skills necessary to be a First Responder and a specialist in Musculoskeletal injuries. I was able to practice my skills within two wonderful practicums. The first was at Ambrose University with the Volleyball teams. The second was at University of Calgary with their Women Soccer team, and both Men and Women Basketball teams. This grew my love for helping others and using my knowledge to help people. Now that I am certified, as an Athletic Therapist, I look forward to working within a multi-sport fashion so I can continue to help others, “Recover. Regain. Return.”
I look forward to helping you feel better and get back to living your movement dreams and ambitions.
Sincerely,
Jill Purdy
